6 Small Habits to Keep Your Space Organized

Getting and staying organized can feel overwhelming, but the good news is you don’t have to do it all at once. By starting small habits, you can make big changes! Here are a few small habits to help you simplify, declutter, and keep your space organized:

1. Bedside Table Clean-Up

Before bed, clear off your bedside table. Take any cups or bowls to the kitchen sink (you know what I’m talking about) and throw away trash.

2. The 3-Minute Challenge

Spend 3 minutes every day to declutter a small area (fold laundry, clean off the kitchen counter, etc). Set a timer for 3 minutes and get as much done as possible. When the timer stops, you’re free to stop! Now, you’ve already accomplished more than you did 3 minutes ago.

3. Visual Clutter Check

As items accumulate, mental clutter increases too. Do a quick daily scan of your space. Stand at the doorway and look for any items out of place & put them back where they belong. Remember, every item has a home!

4. Empty Your Bag

When you get home, check your bag/backpack. Throw out receipts, trash, and loose papers.

5. Daily Digital Declutter

Take a few minutes at the end of your work/school day to close all your tabs and delete any unnecessary downloads or files. For example, the “final version,” “final version2,” "actual final version,” “final version use this one” docs accumulating on your desktop. We’ve all been there…

6. Sunday Night Fridge Check

Set aside time every Sunday to look in your fridge. Throw out any food that has gone bad and clean out any tupperware with spoiled leftovers. You can also make this part of your weekend reset!
