Creative Ways to Add More Movement to Your Day

We all know regular physical activity is important for our health and wellness, but finding time to exercise every day isn’t always that easy. However, you don't have to go to the gym or have a fancy workout routine to get started. Adding more movement to your day is a simple and effective way to increase your physical activity and improve your health!

So we’ve put together five easy ways to add more movement into your daily routine without even realizing it:

1. TV Stretch

Use commercial breaks (or set a timer if you're streaming) to do a quick stretch while watching your show, even if it's just standing up and touching your toes. It's a great way to get your blood flowing, and you'll be surprised at how much better you feel after a quick stretch

2. Stairs over Elevator

Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs for at least one or two floors. You can do this at work, the mall, or just a building where you have an appointment. It might not seem like much, but over time, those extra steps can really add up.

3. Lap at the Dog Park or Backyard

If you're a pet owner, take advantage of your pup's playtime. Instead of sitting on the bench or standing around (which I’m definitely guilty of), make it a rule to walk a lap or two around the dog park or yard while they play.

4. Water Cooler Breaks

Set a timer to stand up and move for every 30 minutes of desk work. It can be as simple as walking to the water cooler or taking the long way to the bathroom. Not only will it help you get some movement in, but it can also boost your productivity and focus.

5. Meetings on the Go/Walk and Talk

Who says you have to sit still during phone calls or virtual meetings? If you're able to take calls or virtual meetings without being at your desk, use this time to walk around the house, office, or even outside. It's also a great way to get extra steps in and catch up with friends and family.
